Pricing

The price of each machine, straight up: washing machines cost between $3.25 and $11.00 depending on capacity; the dryer is charged by the minute; and there are three coin-exchange machines on site, so you never have to run around looking for 25-cent coins.

Laundromat Pricing Built for Every Load

Every price on this page is what you'll pay at 145 E. Stetson Avenue, with no card fees, no app, and no surprise surcharges. Our Dexter washers come in five sizes, from a 20 lb. double loader up to the 80 lb. magnum washer, so a single hamper and a king comforter each get a machine that fits and you only pay for the capacity you use.

Dryers run on minutes per quarter, and you're welcome to use them without washing here first. Bring bills or quarters; our change machines handle the rest, and an attendant is on duty to help.

  • Washers from $3.25 (2-load) to $11.00 (8-load Magnum)
  • Dryers: 4 to 6 minutes per quarter, depending on dryer size
  • Detergent, softener, bleach, and laundry bags sold on-site
  • Cash and tokens only on self-service machines*

*Our Fluff & Fold drop-off service accepts cards.

Bills Welcome

Changers

Our facility has three change machines next to the vending wall, so you can walk in with bills and walk out with clean laundry:

  • Two dispense a mix of tokens and quarters
  • One dispenses TOKENS ONLY
  • Tokens work in washers and dryers ONLY, not the vending machines
  • Unused tokens can't be refunded or exchanged for cash, so save them for your next visit
  • Tokens also work at our sister location, The Laundry Hamper in San Jacinto

We switched to custom tokens after the national coin shortage during COVID left us short on quarters. Tokens also stop people from using our changers like an ATM, which used to leave the machines empty for the customers who actually came in to wash.

Washers

Every washer here is a front-loader, and you pick your size by dry weight, not by how full the basket looks. We don't have top-loaders anymore. Soap goes in the dispenser on top of the machine. Our staff wipe the drum and door gasket after every wash and leave the doors open between loads to air them out, so if you find a washer door open, that's on purpose. "Dry load capacity" does NOT include added weight of water.

Wash Upgrades

Every washer upgrade costs $0.50 and adds about 6 minutes to the cycle. Which upgrade you get depends on when you add it:

  • BEFORE START: Add $0.50 before starting for a pre-wash
  • AFTER START: Add $0.50 for an extended wash (super wash)
  • APPROX. 11 MIN: Around the 11 minute mark, add $0.50 for an extra rinse

Use a pre-wash for muddy or greasy work clothes, a super wash for heavily soiled loads, and an extra rinse for towels or a load where you’ve used too much detergent. A standard wash runs about 25 minutes, and a pre-wash plus a super wash brings it to about 37. The extra rinse can only be added near the end of the cycle, so stay close to your washer if you want one.

Machines don’t give change, so a token covers the cost of the upgrade with nothing back. The walk-through video was recorded at our sister location, The Laundry Hamper, which runs the same Dexter washers. The Hamper also offers app payment, but at The Laundry Basket, upgrades are paid with quarters or tokens.

An infographic titled “Paying with Cash? Add Extras in 3 Easy Steps” explains that each washer upgrade costs $0.50 and adds 6 minutes. It shows three steps: an orange hand-and-cash icon for Before Start (add $0.50 for a pre-wash), a blue power-button icon for After Start (add $0.50 for an extended wash), and a purple washing-machine icon for Around 11 Min (add $0.50 for an extra rinse). A QR code in the corner links to a video, and a red warning notes that machines don’t give change for tokens. The guide is for the washers at The Laundry Basket in Hemet, CA.

Dryers

Each quarter buys a set block of drying time: 6 minutes on a 3-load dryer, 5 minutes on a 5-load, and 4 minutes on a 6-load. Put in what you think you need and add more if the load is still damp, so you never pay for a full cycle you don't use. Coming in with wet laundry from home? Dry-only loads are welcome here, even though a lot of laundromats in the valley don't allow them.

Laundry Products

Forgot the detergent? The wall-mounted vending machine next to the changers sells single-load boxes of Tide, Gain, Suavitel, Downy, Clorox bleach, and Bounce dryer sheets, plus laundry bags with no closure or with a drawstring:

EXTRA LARGE (45 gallon) laundry bags are $1.25 in the snack vending machine. Every snack, drink, and bag sold from that machine helps sponsor three children in impoverished countries, something we've done for about ten years.

Laundromat Cost FAQs

How much money should I bring to the laundromat?

Plan on about $8.25 for one family-size load, and bring bills instead of a roll of quarters, since our three change machines break them into tokens and quarters on-site. That's a 4-load washer ($6.25) plus 40 minutes in a 5-load dryer ($2.00). A bigger day adds up quickly: three 4-load washers plus an 8-load for a comforter come to $29.75 before drying.

Tokens don't expire, so anything left over works on your next visit, here or at The Laundry Hamper.

How much is a typical load of laundry at your laundromat?

A typical load runs about $6.75 to $14.75, depending on the washer you pick and how long your load needs to dry:

  • Everyday clothes: 3-load washer ($5.00) + 42 minutes in a 3-load dryer (7 quarters, $1.75) = $6.75
  • Family-size load: 4-load washer ($6.25) + 40 minutes in a 5-load dryer (8 quarters, $2.00) = $8.25
  • King comforter: 8-load Magnum ($11.00) + 60 minutes in a 6-load dryer (15 quarters, $3.75) = $14.75

Towels and jeans take longer to dry than t-shirts, so treat these as examples, not quotes.

Is it cheaper to wash clothes at home or at a laundromat?

If you already own a washer that works, home is usually cheaper per load. The laundromat wins on size and breakdowns. A king comforter that won't fit, or won't rinse clean, in a home machine fits in our 80 lb. Magnum for $11.00.

When a home washer quits, the repair bill and the wait for parts add up fast, and a lot of our dry-only customers first came in for exactly that reason. The owner repairs our Dexter machines in-house, which is how we keep about 99% of them running every day.

Where's the cheapest place to do laundry near me?

In Hemet, our prices are the same every day of the week, with no peak pricing. If you're an early riser, The Laundry Hamper in San Jacinto, about a 9-minute drive from us, offers discounted early-bird pricing before 7 AM, and your Laundry Basket tokens work there too.

Wherever you wash, the cheapest trip is picking the right washer size so one load doesn't end up in two machines.

Can I just use the dryer at The Laundry Basket without washing?

Yes. Dry-only loads are welcome at The Laundry Basket and at The Laundry Hamper. Plenty of laundromats post "dryers for wash customers only" signs; we don't. If your dryer at home died or you washed something in the tub, bring the wet load in.

Dryers run 4 to 6 minutes per quarter depending on size (3-load, 5-load, or 6-load), and an attendant can help you pick the right one.

What's the best time to do laundry at The Laundry Basket?

Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are usually our quietest, so you'll get your pick of machines and folding space. We're open until midnight every day, which helps night-shift workers and anyone who'd rather wash after the kids are in bed. Our prices don't change by day or hour, so timing is about elbow room, not savings.

What type of payments do you accept?

Our self-service washers and dryers take quarters and tokens only. We won't add card readers until every machine on the floor can take them, because we don't want a mix where some machines take cards and others don't.

Our Fluff & Fold drop-off service is the exception: it accepts Google Pay, Apple Pay, credit/debit, and Cash App, with a 1.25% card convenience fee that you avoid by paying cash. If you'd rather pay for self-service with a card, our Cardenas Shopping Center laundromat in San Jacinto takes cards through the Dexter app, and our tokens work there too.

How much does wash and fold service cost?

Our Fluff & Fold drop-off service costs $1.50 per pound next-day or $2.25 per pound same-day, with a 15 lb. minimum:

  • Next-day: $1.50/lb. Pick up after 12 pm the next day.
  • Same-day: $2.25/lb. Drop off before 11 am, pick up after 6 pm.

There's no separate price list for comforters or other items; everything is by weight. A 15 lb. bag comes to $22.50 next-day or $33.75 same-day. Storage is limited, so laundry needs to be picked up as soon as it's ready. Here's how our Fluff & Fold drop-off works, from drop-off to pickup.

Is it worth paying for laundry services instead of doing it myself?

It's worth it if hauling baskets, waiting on cycles, and folding is the hard part of laundry day for you. We started Fluff & Fold because customers kept calling and emailing to ask for it: busy parents, people who'd rather pay than spend a morning here, and seniors who needed help with heavy loads. At $22.50 for 15 lb. next-day, that's a fair trade.

If you like doing it yourself, the self-service floor costs less, and it's air-conditioned and staffed.
