Quick summary

A Self-Service Laundromat About 2 Miles From Mary Henley Park

The Laundry Basket is a self-service, veteran-owned laundromat at 145 E Stetson Ave in Hemet, CA 92543, about 2 miles east of Mary Henley Park. That’s a 4- to 5-minute drive down Stetson Avenue. We’ve been part of the Hemet community since February 23, 2018. We’re open every day until midnight, our washers run from double loaders up to 8-load Magnum machines, and dry-only visits are always welcome.

Here’s the straight answer if you searched for a laundromat near the park. We’re not across the street, and it’s not a walk across the grass. We’re a short, simple drive away with almost no turns. Mary Henley Park is one of the Hemet landmarks and neighborhoods we serve, and plenty of our regulars live in the blocks around Kirby Street and Johnston Avenue. Self-service means you’re in charge: bring your basket, pick your machine, and work at your own pace.

fun gets dirty

Laundry That Comes Home From Mary Henley Park

Mary Henley Park covers 16 acres at 801 S Kirby St. It has two playgrounds, a half basketball court, a covered fitness court, gazebos, picnic tables, a big open turf area and a walking path around the edge. It’s also one of Hemet’s busiest gathering spots. It hosts city events, kids’ birthday parties, family get-togethers, fundraisers, and movies in the park every summer. And all that running around does more than burn off energy. Research published in Pediatrics found that regular exercise was linked to higher intelligence scores in kids ages 5 to 14.

All of that fun comes home as laundry. Grass stains from the turf, sticky party clothes, sweaty shirts from the basketball court or the fitness court, and picnic blankets that picked up half the lawn. If you hosted a party or ran a fundraiser booth, add tablecloths, chair covers and a stack of volunteer shirts.

Our machines aren’t all one size, so each of those loads has a place here:

  • Double loaders for a quick load of play clothes
  • Maxi and mega washers for a family’s weekly pile or a full party cleanup
  • Magnum washers for picnic blankets, comforters and other bulky items

That range matters. Instead of splitting one big blanket across three small washers and watching all of them, you put it in one machine and you’re done.

why choose us

Clean, Cool, Working Machines and a Safer Place to Do Laundry

One of the first questions people ask is whether it’s air conditioned. It is. We installed full air conditioning when we took over this property, so you won’t sweat through a dry cycle in the middle of an Inland Empire summer.

The next question is usually about broken machines. We replaced every washer and dryer in the building with newer, made-in-USA equipment, and we repair our own machines in-house instead of waiting on an outside service call. That’s why 99% of our machines are working on any given day. Our attendants also wipe down floors, machines and surfaces throughout the day, not just at closing.

Safety is personal for us. When we took over in 2018, this location had a 2.5-star rating and a reputation for loitering and drug activity. We rebuilt it from the ground up:

  • An attendant on duty throughout the day, friendly and quick to help
  • Twelve security cameras covering the building
  • Newer, made-in-USA washers and dryers throughout
  • Cleaning all day long, not just at night
  • Full air conditioning

In 2021, the Hemet Police Department presented us with a plaque of appreciation for the turnaround. We’re proud of it, and we work to keep earning it. So whether you’re coming in alone, with the kids after a park day, or after a late shift, you can feel comfortable here.

you have options

Wash It Yourself, Dry Only, or Drop It Off

Did your washer at home quit with the clothes already wet? You can come in and use just a dryer. Many laundromats post “dryers are for wash customers only.” We don’t. No wash purchase is needed to use our dryers, and we’ve never turned someone away because their machine at home broke down.

If you’d rather not do the laundry yourself, we now offer Fluff & Fold drop-off service. Drop off at least 15 lbs and we’ll wash, dry and fold it for you. Next-day service is $1.50 per pound, ready after 12 pm the next day. Same-day service is $2.25 per pound if you drop off before 11 am, ready after 6 pm. It’s a good option after a weekend of party linens or event shirts. Fluff & Fold accepts cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Cash App, and paying cash avoids the 1.25% card fee. Finished orders need to be picked up when they’re ready because our storage space is limited.

easy directions

Directions From Mary Henley Park

From the park, head toward W Johnston Ave and turn left onto W Stetson Ave. Stay on Stetson for about 1.5 miles, then turn right onto S State St. Make an immediate left, and you’ll find The Laundry Basket on your right at 145 E Stetson Ave. It’s about 2 miles in total, a short drive east on Stetson Avenue. If Stetson is backed up near the park, you can take W Johnston Ave to S Lyon Ave, then turn left onto Stetson and continue the same way.

The self-serve washers and dryers run on quarters and tokens. They don’t take cards, there’s no app, and there’s no online booking, so nothing stands between you and the machine you need. Only have a twenty? Our three change machines on-site make breaking a larger bill easy. Tokens bought here also work at our sister location, The Laundry Hamper in San Jacinto, about 3.8 miles away (roughly a 9-minute drive).

Outdoor Fitness Court at Mary Henley Park, with a blue shade sail canopy over a blue exercise zone with workout stations and a curved concrete path across the grass — a neighborhood park spot near The Laundry Basket in Hemet, CA.

Forgot your detergent? Our vending machine has you covered. There’s also a snack and drink machine for when a big load takes longer than you planned. For years, proceeds from that machine have helped sponsor three children abroad, so a cold drink here quietly does some good.

Have a question before you load the car? Call or text us at (951) 286-4444 and an attendant can help. We’re open every day until midnight, so there’s room in your schedule whether you’re coming after work, after dinner or after a day at the park.
